Is it possible to count without a system that designates numbers? To respond to that question, a team of researchers from CEA, CNRS, and Inserm, coordinated by Stanislas Dehaene, director of the Joint Unit Inserm-CEA Cognitive Neuroimaging, has been interested in the Mundurucus. These Amazonian Indians live in villages that are isolated from Western civilization and have a limited number system.
