Global Climate Action Symposium

Banner for the 2020 Global Climate Action Symposium. The 2020 symposium is a free online event held on October sixth, seventh, and eighth. The event runs from 9 AM to 12 PM for each of the three days. The conference has three themes: ecosystems and climate, environmental justice, and green recovery in the context of covid 19. The symposium is a collaboration with the Atlanta consulates of Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Great Britain.

  • October 6 from 9am 12pm (EST) – Climate & Ecosystems

Earth’s ecosystems comprise a critical role in the climate system. Ecosystems are profoundly impacted by ongoing climate change, but they are also a key part of climate solutions. Learn the latest science around ecosystems and climate change, how ecosystems can provide effective tools for climate action, and the landscape for policies that will protect and enhance such ecosystem services for decades to come.

  • October 7 from 9am 12pm (EST) – Environmental Justice & Climate Justice

Climate change is a human and civil rights issue. Environmental injustice, including ongoing and accelerating climate change impacts, disproportionately affect communities of color and low-income communities. Discussions in this theme will explore the intersection of racial justice and climate action through the lens of equity in our local communities, and expand to include discussion of equity at the International scale.

  • October 8 from 9am 12pm (EST) – COVID-19 & Green Recovery

The COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally altered life on a global scale, exacerbating existing inequalities that have motivated urgent, large-scale policy interventions at the local to International scales. Explore emerging frameworks that advance climate action on the pathway to social and economic recovery from COVID-19, including emerging plans currently under development in Europe.

Registration is free, and open to the public. Register for the event here.
